As a Utah-based photographer, I absolutely love when I get the opportunity to capture love stories in stunning destinations outside of the state. This destination engagement session in Big Sur, California was nothing short of magical. With dramatic cliffs, windswept coastlines, and misty light that seemed to follow us everywhere, Big Sur delivered the kind of breathtaking beauty that makes you fall in love all over again.
Big Sur: A Perfect Location for Adventure-Loving Couples
This couple knew they wanted something a little different for their engagement photos—something wild, romantic, and filled with natural beauty. Big Sur, with its iconic Highway 1 vistas, redwood groves, and moody beaches, was the perfect location for their destination engagement shoot. As a photographer, it was a dream come true to explore this landscape with two people who were just as excited to adventure as I was.
From Utah to the California Coast
While I’m proud to call Utah home and regularly shoot in beautiful places like Moab, Park City, and the Salt Flats, traveling for engagement sessions is one of my favorite parts of this job. Whether it's the deserts of Arizona, the Oregon coast, or in this case, the cliffs of Big Sur, I’m always ready to hop on a plane (or hit the road) to capture love stories in extraordinary places.
Foggy Skies, Ocean Breeze & Intimate Moments
We started our session in the late afternoon to take advantage of the misty light of the coast. The couple danced barefoot on the beach, wandered through windswept fields, and cuddled close on cliffside overlooks. There were moments of laughter, quiet intimacy, and pure joy that made this session unforgettable.
