A Western Summer Wedding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming

There are some places where you show up with a camera and immediately know you're going to have a really freaking good day.

Jackson Hole is one of them.

I had the chance to second photograph this wedding for From the Daisies, and between the Tetons, cowboy hats, ridiculously beautiful outdoor dinner setup, and a dance floor that absolutely did not stay calm, there was SO much to photograph.

It felt Western without feeling themed, elevated without being overly formal, and completely at home in Wyoming.

Basically, exactly what a Jackson Hole wedding should feel like.

A Summer Wedding With the Tetons as the Backdrop

You really don't need to do much when the Tetons are casually sitting behind your ceremony.

The landscape did so much of the work here. Open fields, huge skies, mountains in the distance, and guests gathering outside for the ceremony made everything feel expansive without losing the intimacy of the day itself.

I especially loved the contrast between the more polished wedding details and the wild Wyoming landscape around them.

An elevated wedding dinner basically sitting underneath the mountains.

Yes please.

Western Wedding Details Without Making It a Theme

This is SUCH good inspiration if you're planning a Western wedding but don't necessarily want your wedding to feel like a Western-themed party.

There were cowboy hats and boots and unmistakably Wyoming details throughout the day, but none of it felt forced.

It just belonged there.

That's one of my favorite ways to approach a destination or location-specific wedding. You don't have to cover everything in cowboy boots just because you're getting married in Jackson Hole.

Let the place influence the day instead.

Dinner Under the Wyoming Sky

And then there was the dinner setup.

One long table outside, guests gathered together, mountains surrounding everyone, and the kind of evening light that makes you understand very quickly why people travel from all over the country to get married in Jackson Hole.

I love huge reception spaces, but there is something about bringing everyone together around one long table that photographs so freaking beautifully.

You can see everyone interacting.

People lean across the table to talk.

Glasses are everywhere.

Someone is always laughing in the background.

It feels like dinner instead of a production.

And those little interactions are exactly what I'm looking for.

Then the Party Started

The reception completely changed the energy of the gallery.

Once everyone moved underneath the tent and onto that checkerboard dance floor, the big, quiet landscapes turned into flash, movement, dancing, drinks, cowboy hats, and people actually losing themselves in the night.

This is why I don't want a wedding gallery to look exactly the same from beginning to end.

Your ceremony shouldn't necessarily feel like your dance floor.

The quiet moments should feel quiet.

The party should look like a freaking party.

Give me the beautiful mountain portraits AND the slightly unhinged dance floor photos.

I want all of it.

Photographing Weddings in Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Getting to second photograph this day for From the Daisies was such a fun opportunity to document a wedding in one of my favorite kinds of environments: somewhere the landscape is part of the story without overpowering the people in it.

That's ultimately what I want from my wedding photography.

I want you to remember where you were.

I want the Tetons and the fields and the ridiculous Wyoming sky.

But I also want your best friend laughing at dinner, someone stealing a cowboy hat on the dance floor, your parents watching you during the ceremony, and all the weird little things happening around you that you didn't even realize I photographed.

Because the place can be incredible.

But the people are why you're there.
