If your engagement photos involve running through a field, bringing your dogs, giving piggyback rides, and generally forgetting that you’re supposed to be taking photos, I’m in.
Caiti and Jackson’s engagement session at Tunnel Springs Park was basically everything I love about photographing couples. Nothing overly complicated, nothing super posed, just the two of them hanging out in one of the prettiest open spaces right outside Salt Lake City.
And yes, the dogs obviously had to come too.
Engagement Photos at Tunnel Springs Park
Tunnel Springs is one of those Utah locations that looks almost ridiculously good without needing much added to it. You have huge rolling hills, tall grass, open sky, and views that make you feel like you drove way farther from Salt Lake than you actually did.
For this session, we leaned into all of it.
We started with the dogs and let everyone wander through the grass together before giving Caiti and Jackson some time on their own. From there, it was way less "stand here and smile at me" and way more walking, running, messing with each other, piggyback rides, and letting things happen.
Those in-between moments are always my favorites anyway.
Your Engagement Session Does Not Have to Feel Like a Photoshoot
One of the biggest things I want couples to know before their engagement session is that you do not need to know how to pose.
Like, at all.
I’ll give you direction when you need it, but I'm much more interested in creating situations where something real can happen than putting you into 47 different poses.
Run down the hill. Chase each other. Pick her up. Walk your dogs. Make each other laugh. Be weird.
I’ll photograph what happens in between.
That’s where the good stuff is.
Bringing Your Dogs to Your Engagement Photos

They don't need to behave perfectly. They don't need to look directly at my camera. Honestly, half the charm is that they don't.
Caiti and Jackson brought theirs along, and I LOVE what they add to this gallery. These aren't just pretty engagement photos. They actually document what their life looks like during this season of it, dogs included.
And years from now, those photos are going to mean even more.

The rolling landscape gives us room to actually move around and play instead of staying in one tiny photo spot, and depending on the season, the hills can completely change character. It's simple, open, and ridiculously photogenic.
More importantly, it gives us space to make photos that feel like you.
So bring the dogs. Wear something you can actually move in. Don't worry about practicing poses beforehand.
